Overall Purpose of Job

To facilitate the achievement of the Hospital's mission to provide exceptional patient care in an environment where quality, respect, caring, and compassion is at the centre.

To enhance outcomes for patients by assessment of standards of Nursing and Health Care Assistant practice, the planning and implementation of appropriate education and professional development
Providing a quality educational and supportive service to Theatre Nursing staff and Students on programs
The coordination and management of up to date educational/ Clinical programs for relevant staff
The goal of the Theatre Clinical Facilitator is to enhance clinical practice by supporting RN's within theatre to develop the necessary skills to deliver skilled nursing care for all patients. That all Theatre RN's will successfully complete their probationary period within the agreed time frame this may include HCAs also. This will be done in collaboration with the Theatre Educator and Theatre manager.
Enable and facilitate the Mandatory training of all theatre staff
This role is a clinical one that requires direct supervision of preceptors working in clinical practice with patients. There will be an identified time frame for all preceptors. This will be based on their previous Clinical experience and initial assessment carried out in the two-week orientation.
Principal duties and responsibilities
Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership
To be responsible for the assessment of standards of Nursing and Health Care assistant practice
Be responsible for the coordination of a regular schedule of education, and professional development
Participate in teams /meetings/committees as appropriate communicating and working in cooperation with other team members
Develop an annual work plan to meet the changing service needs
Develop appropriate systems in the streamlining of education and practice development
Record keeping in accordance with professional standards
Weekly updates with Preceptee and Theatre managers to highlight strengths
Manage resources efficiently and effectively to ensure continuous quality improvement in service
Adhere to and contribute to the development and maintenance of nursing standards, Protocols, and Guidelines consistent with the highest standards of patient care
Evaluate and manage the implementation of best practice policy and procedures
Maintain professional standards in relation to confidentiality, ethics, and legislation
Operate within the scope of practice- seek advice and assistance of the Theatre managers with any issues (in line with principles of best practice and clinical governance
Participate in the development, formulation, and evaluation of guideline, policies, and procedures for ICU
Promote the guidelines for safety and best practice laid down by the Hospital policies, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland guidelines, and relevant acts such as the data protection act 1998 and the Health Safety and Welfare at work act 1999.
Assign time to engage directly in practice in order to keep pace with changes and provide enabling process for staff to achieve their goals
Education and Training
The Clinical Facilitator will:
Keep up to date with current research, ensure evidence-based practice and research is utilised

The Clinical Facilitator will:

Provide professional Clinical Leadership and vision and facilitate staff team building to provide planned care and develop educational strategies service goals
Maintain a Quality standard of service lead on proactive quality improvement and support accreditation
Effectively educate staff on Hospital, Regional policies as applicable
Provide leadership and motivation which is conducive to good working relations and work performance
Effective communication and feedback skills
Promote a culture that values diversity and respect in the workplace
Lead and support practice development within the clinical area
Lead and support the implementation of change
Establish and maintain positive working relations with colleagues, the multi-disciplinary team, and other Departments

Person Specification Qualifications
NMBI of good standing
Postgraduate degree/Diploma in Peri-Operative Nursing
Masters in Clinical practice is expected

Experience
No less than 5 years of Theatre expertise
